Joseph Lowery is a Phoenix-based soccer writer and podcast host who specializes in creative written, auditory, and video content. His written work has appeared in The Washington Post and The Athletic. He has also worked as a video analyst, combing through footage to present an upcoming opponent’s style of play, strengths, and weaknesses to a coaching staff.

Joseph has written tactical pieces about men’s, women’s, and youth World Cups, the Champions League, various European leagues, and MLS, the NWSL, and the USL. He has also written feature pieces on some of the most interesting projects and figures in the American soccer sphere. You can find a survey of his written work below.

On MLS Assist, a podcast created in conjunction with the Total Soccer Show in 2019, Joseph and former professional soccer player and current broadcaster Jordan Angeli breakdown the on-field side of Major League Soccer. Complete with interviews, player scouting reports, and match analysis, MLS Assist is dedicated to consistently chronicling the tactical side of MLS. It’s also the only MLS-centric podcast in the The Athletic’s podcast network.

With concise, information-filled videos, Joseph gives insight into various aspects of the United States men’s and women’s national teams.

His eight-part video series, aptly named “Way-Too-Specific United States Men’s National Team Analysis”, combined engaging visuals and insightful voiceovers to dive into the minutiae of the USMNT’s players and style of play.
